If so\, then please join me on Friday\, October 28 for a walk in the Jericho Park area near UBC. We’ll discover the bounty of food\, healing herbs and medicinal mushrooms that nature provides\, ending our walk with a homemade snack made from wild foraged ingredients. As of Aug. 30 it’s full with a waiting list. Check back later in case a second walk is added. \nNote: Describing Erica as a “real master of plant knowledge” is no exaggeration. In Dancing on Our Turtle’s Back: Stories of Nishnaabeg Re-Creation\, Resurgence\, and a New Emergence activist\, editor\, and educator Leanne Simpson asserts reconciliation must be grounded in political resurgence and must support the regeneration of Indigenous languages\, oral cultures\, and traditions of governance. \nSimpson explores philosophies and pathways of regeneration\, resurgence\, and a new emergence through the Nishnaabeg language\, Creation Stories\, walks with Elders and children\, celebrations and protests\, and meditations on these experiences. She stresses the importance of illuminating Indigenous intellectual traditions to transform their relationship to the Canadian state. \nChallenging and original\, Dancing on Our Turtle’s Back provides a valuable new perspective on the struggles of Indigenous Peoples.” \nhttp://arpbooks.org/books/detail/dancing-on-our-turtles-back \n***About Spartacus: *** \nSpartacus Books is a nonprofit\, volunteer-run bookstore and resource centre. SUMMARY:Lelu's Voice I Am - Stand with Lax U'u'la against LNG/Petronas!
DESCRIPTION:Calablast Tuesday #21 \nLELU’S VOICE I AM – A night for Lax U’u’la (Lelu Islands) Stand against Petronas LNG. \nNO PIPELINES ON UNCEDED FIRST NATIONS TERRITORY!\n****************************************************\nHosted by & Ft. Performances by:\nMinayMusic\nIan Is Music\n+guests (TBA) \nWere back with a special 21st edition of Calablast our monthly fundraising and local music showcase. This month we’re standing arm in arm with the Lax’walams first nations people in their fight against the Petronas company and our Government’s plans to build an liquified natural gas (LNG) plant on traditional\, unceded Lax Kw’alaams territory. A plan which if carried out would disrupt and destroy fragile and ireplacable fish habitat in Lax U’u’la (Lelu Island) at the mouth of the Skeena river near Prince Rupert\, BC. \nThe shallow eelgrass beds of Flora Bank directly southwest of Lax U’u’la are the most important juvenile fish habitat in the entire Skeena river system for salmon\, steelhead\, and numerous other species of seafood. 88% of all migrating salmon from the Skeena river\, or 330 Million every year\, rely on Flora Bank. 10 Nations and 60 000 people in the Skeena watershed rely on these fish for food\, commercial fishing\, and cultural identity. Lax Kw’alaams Hereditary Chief Yahaan (Donald Wesley) sums up beautifully why we should all be in support of the peaceful occupation of Lax U’u’la (Lelu Island); \n“Our Traditional ways of life and the resources which have sustained our people are not to be pawns in the Christie Clark Government’s LNG dreams. Development within our Traditional territories must have our Free\, Prior and Informed consent. The people of Lax’walams spoke very clearly in their rejection of the 1.25 billion dollar offer from Petronas\, and this camp builds upon that rejection. This issue is not just a First Nations issue but one that will affect all British Columbians\, especially those who rely upon healthy and abundant Fish stocks\, of a variety of species at the mouth of the Skeena River.” – Lax Kw’alaams Hereditary Chief Yahaan (Donald Wesley) \nPlease help the cause by donating to https://www.gofundme.com/lelu_island\nlearn more here\nhttp://www.laxuula.com/why-we-are-occupying and if you can’t donate please like and share their facebook page Stop Pacific NorthWest LNG/Petronas on Lelu Island \nMore about Calablast Tuesday: \nA Monthly Community Showcase – The last Tues of Every Month at Calabash Bistro! \n**Door is ‘By Donation’. Suggested: $5-10+. No-one turned away for lack of funds.** \n**Please invite and re-post if you’re coming. Let people know or invite a friend!** \n**This is a community led event and other ways you can contribute outside of performing or attending include; Ideas for future events\, referrals to artists and non profits doing great work in the city\, bringing a camera and documenting the event via photos and videos\, general media coverage\, and any other ideas on how to improve for future events are all welcome. SUMMARY:A Fundraiser for Wild Salmon\, Sovereignty and Justice
DESCRIPTION:A Fundraiser for Wild Salmon\, Sovereignty and Justice \n“Our fight against fish farms is for the benefit of all people because wild salmon is the backbone of this coast” \nJoin the Musgamagw Dzawada’nuxw on October 22nd at the Grandview Calvary Church for a night of story telling\, videos\, food & fundraising. \nThe Musgamagw Dzawada’nuxw are on the front lines of evicting fish farms from their traditional territories in BC. In the past weeks they have boarded fish farms\, held cleansing ceremonies\, and found hard video evidence of the impacts these feedlots have on wild salmon. \nFor nearly 30 years\, this nation has opposed all fish farms in their waters. Despite this lack of consent\, the Provincial and Federal governments have placed 1/3rd of the fish farming industry on their traditional territory. \nWith the introduction of this industry the wild salmon stocks have been disappearing. In 2015 alone\, the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw lost 40% of their wild salmon due to a sea lice outbreak from the farms. \nThere has never been a more important time to stand with the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw. Since time immemorial they have protected their salmon and herring for future generations. Join them in continuing this legacy and kicking every fish farm out of their territory! \nThe event will include first hand experiences from Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw Hereditary Chief Willie Moon and Councillors Midori Nicolson & Melissa Willie about their fight and short films produced by filmmakers Lindsey Mae Willie & Tamo Campos. \nSaturday\, October 22nd\, 2016\n6:30 pm\nGrandview Calvary Church – 1803 East First Avenue (one bloc East from Commercial Dr)\nWheelchair Accessible\nUnceded Musqueam\, Squamish And Tsleil-Waututh Territory. \nThis event is being organized by grassroots organizers with all proceeds being donated to the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw. \nwww.cleansingourwaters.com \nWith the support of Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw and Streams of Justice.\nEndorsed by The Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance

SUMMARY:Why BDS matters: A Town Hall Discussion about Illegal Occupation
DESCRIPTION:At its August 2016 convention in Ottawa the Green Party of Canada passed a policy resolution to become the first (and only) party with representation in the House of Commons to publicly support elements of the Palestinian-led call for boycott\, divestment\, and sanctions (BDS) to pressure Israel to respect international law\, and oppose efforts to “prohibit\, punish or otherwise deter expressions of support for BDS.” \nThe Green Party quickly came under intense pressure from pro-Israeli organizations for its democratic adoption of the resolution. Green Party Leader Elizabeth May reacted by expressing her disagreement with the resolution\, firing three members of her shadow cabinet who publicly supported the resolution\, and calling a “special general meeting” on December 3-4 in Calgary to revisit\, and potentially reverse\, the resolution. \nThis public town hall is an opportunity for students\, the general public\, members of all political parties\, and Green Party members of all perspectives on the resolution to learn more about the reality and aims of the Palestinian-led call for boycott\, divestment\, and sanctions (BDS)\, why the Green Party resolution is significant\, and what can be done to support BDS and the resolution. \nThe evening will feature presentations by Dimitri Lascaris\, former Justice Critic of the Green Party of Canada Shadow Cabinet and author and submitter of the resolution; Sid Shniad\, co-chair of Independent Jewish Voices and Audrey Siegl\, Musqueam leader and activist. The panel talk will be followed by ample time for discussion and debate from attendees. \nThis is a free event\, donations are gratefully accepted to offset costs of the event. \nOrganized by Canada Palestine Association\, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East and the Campaign to Defend the Green Party of Canada’s BDS Policy. \nAbout the speakers: \nDIMITRI LASCARIS was the author and submitter of the Green Party resolution on “Palestinian Self-Determination and the Movement for Boycott\, Divestment and Sanctions” and was justice critic in the Green Party of Canada Shadow Cabinet before he was removed in September by leader Elizabeth May. \nHe graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1991\, and is a practicing lawyer called to the bars of Ontario\, the State of New York\, and the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York. He graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1991. In 2012\, Canadian Lawyer Magazine identified Mr. Lascaris as one of the 25 most influential lawyers in Canada\, and in 2013\, Canadian Business Magazine identified him as one of the 50 most influential people in Canadian business. \nLascaris is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Unity Project for the Relief of Homelessness\, and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Real News Network\, an independent\, not-for-profit media organization based in Baltimore\, Maryland. He previously served as a Board member of Toronto 350.org. \nIn the 2015 federal election\, he ran as the Green Party candidate in the riding of London West. \nSID SHNIAD is a member\, national steering committee\nIndependent Jewish Voices Canada \nAUDREY SIEGL (ancestral name sχɬemtəna:t) lived in East Van\, where she was raised by a single father of East Indian and British heritage\, and by her mother’s Musqueam family. In recent years she has moved back to the Musqueam Indian Reserve in a process of reconnecting with maternal and ancestral ties\, where she has worked in the Musqueam Language and Culture Department to revitalize hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language. \nShe currently lives and works on the reserve\, located south of Marine Drive near the mouth of the Fraser River. The reserve is a beautiful but very small portion of traditional Musqueam territory. In recent years Audrey has been an active in the Idle No More movement. She was also involved in organizing the protection of c̓əsnaʔəm (Marpole Midden) in 2012\, the homeless Tent City in Oppenheimer Park\, stood for Vancouver City Council in the last civic election and most recently works with Green Peace.

SUMMARY:2016 Welfare Food Challenge
DESCRIPTION:This is an invitation to join Raise the Rates’ Annual Welfare Food Challenge in October\, 2016. The previous 4 years of the Challenge were all a great success. The Challenge is for one week\, eating only what can be purchased with the money a welfare recipient receives. \nOver 600 people have so far taken the Challenge and this year\, 2016\, we aim to make it the biggest ever. Raise the Rates is working hard to make poverty an election issue in 2017. \nThe Challenge highlights the inadequacy of welfare rates in BC. A single person receives only $610 a month\, frozen for over 9 years. Raise the Rates\, with others\, is working to raise public awareness of the extreme poverty of people on welfare; and how this poverty costs the people of BC in human suffering and billions of wasted dollars every year. \nParticipants have come from across the province and included families\, school and university students\, elected representatives\, union leaders\, businesspeople\, workers and seniors\, as well as ‘celebrities’ such as Bif Naked. \nThe Challenge will start on World Food Day\, Sunday October 16\, 2016 and run for a full 7 days. Due to the rising cost of rent\, even for single room occupancy (SRO) in the Downtown Eastside participants will be expected to live on only the food they can purchase with $18 dollars (see <a href=”http://Why $18? for calculation). This calculation is based on the expectation that welfare recipients will have to pay rent and damage deposit\, cell phone (necessary to look for work and contact the welfare office) and personal hygiene. We have dropped buying bus tickets\, which is what many people on welfare often do\, so that there is some money left for food. They either walk or hope for the goodwill of bus drivers – which is usually the case\, but they do risk a $173 fine. Out of $610 there is very little money left for food. \nFor more information: https://welfarefoodchallenge.org/\nTo join the challenge: https://welfarefoodchallenge.org/join/ or bill50@vcn.bc.ca

SUMMARY:Sea Shepherd Presents: Salmon Confidential Screening with Special Guests
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of Salmon Confidential\, a 2013 film on the government cover up of what is killing BC’s wild salmon. The film documents biologist Alexandra Morton’s journey as she attempts to overcome government and industry roadblocks thrown in her path and works to bring critical information to the public in time to save BC’s wild salmon. \nWe will hold a Q&A session with some of the campaigners to discuss the recent Operation Virus Hunter Campaign. We will also be showing footage from the campaign and discussing how we can take a united stand moving forward to ensure that toxic salmon farms are removed from our beautiful coast. \nSeating is limited\, first come first serve at the door. Entry by donation (minimum donation $10). All proceeds from the door will go to support Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw and Dr. Morton in their continued efforts to save BC’s wild salmon. \nEternal Abundance will remain open for business during the screening so you can try out their delicious menu! \nOur local Sea Shepherd chapter volunteers will have merchandise and information available at the event. \nFor the Oceans!

SUMMARY:Black Space: A Night of Community Healing
DESCRIPTION:This event\, along with the majority of the organizing done by the Black Lives Matter Vancouver Coalition\, will be taking place on the traditional\, ancestral and unceded territory and homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm\, Skxwú7mesh\, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. We are very grateful to these people for the knowledge\, kindness and indomitable spirit with which they have taken care of this land for millennia. \n– – – – – – – \nEvery day\, the list of deaths seems to grow. Every week\, we find ourselves mourning another family member lost to us at the hands of murderers who are institutionally shielded from punishment. Our grief crosses borders. The loss of our parents\, siblings\, spouses\, relatives\, friends\, those we are intimately connected to though we may have never met them – is too much to bear alone. \nOn Wednesday\, October 12\, let us come together as a Black community to mourn those who have been taken too soon by this violent system\, to celebrate our Blackness and our resilience\, and to support one another. \nWe gather together to remember: \nKorryn Gaines\, Tiarah Poyau\, Skye Mockabee\, Abdirahman Abdi\, Jermaine Carby\, Tawon Boyd\, Terence Crutcher\, Keith Lamont Scott\, Alfred Olango… \n…and so many more\, because the list stretches back over 400 years and continues to go on. We gather together to say their names. Violence toward one of us is violence toward all of us. Every time one of us dies\, a piece of all of us dies. \n“It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.” – Assata Shakur \n– – – – – – – \nTIME: Wednesday\, October 12\, 6-8pm. \nLOCATION: Gallery Gachet\, 88 East Cordova St. \nSpeakers\, performers\, open mic and free dinner. \nWe invite folks from other parts of BC and the West Coast to attend our event and are able to provide accomodation! Please get in touch at blacklivesmattervan@gmail.com! \n* * * Black Lives Matter explicitly and wholeheartedly supports all members of the Black community and endeavours to lift up the voices of those living in the intersections of being Black and further marginalized such as Black women and femmes\, Black trans and queer folks\, Black folks living with disabilities and so on. Therefore\, our intention is to create a safe and welcoming space where homophobia\, transphobia\, sexism and other forms of violence\, lateral or otherwise\, will not be tolerated. \n* * * Please note that this healing space is reserved exclusively for Black folks. Although we will not refuse entrance or remove anyone\, please be respectful of this request\, and understand that for non-Black folks to attend is to disregard the sacred importance of holding Black space.

SUMMARY:Deeds\, Not Words - National Day of Action Victoria
DESCRIPTION:In response to a call-out from Indigenous People’s National Day of Action and Idle No More please come celebrate life\, water\, and show solidarity with Indigenous People who are standing strong to protect the land and water. This is a day to honour all those who are giving so much to protect life and to demand that colonial governments live up to their promises of Nation to Nation relationships and respecting the rights of Indigenous People. \nPlease join us to collectively shape this space together with art\, music\, words and connection. \n12pm – Speakers: TBA\n1pm – Collective emergent art project\, music\, and pop-up workshops! \n<<These events are taking place on Lekwungen territories. We recognize that this is stolen land and that even while violence and colonization against Indigenous peoples and lands continues\, so too does Indigenous resistance\, resilience and resurgence.>> \nBACKGROUND – NATIONAL CALL TO ACTION \nFrom http://www.idlenomore.ca/deed_not_words_call_to_action \nPromises of clean drinking water\, a basic human right. Promises of equal education funding for our children\, another basic human right. Promises of implementing the UNDRIP into Canadian Law\, which had many people doubtful would actually transpire. These are but a few of the so called renewed “Nation to Nation” campaign promises that had indigenous folks clamoring to the elections polls\, many for the first time ever. \nNow those same people are coming to the realization that it was but another trick in our long and deadly “Nation to Nation” relationship with Canada. Across our beautiful shared country\, mega-projects are getting a fast green lights despite very vocal and active opposition from a long list of indigenous communities. Reopening mines and granting permits on lands that have been devastated by tailings spills. Communities continue to be poisoned by water that is wastefully polluted in the name of industry and so called development. Even on the international level this gov’t has gone back on their commitments made to reduce emissions and pushes through dirty\, unsustainable energy at the #COP21. \nIt is quite clear to most of us at this point\, that as far as Indigenous Rights in this country is concerned\, is it business as usual under all of Harper’s destructive policies that never had respect for the First Peoples of this country. No free and prior informed consent (#FPIC) policies have been implemented\, nor will any be any time soon. Unaccessible consultations is still the trick used only under a new name with some new shiny faces. \nSo far the Trudeau gov’t has made a portfolio of photo ops of handshakes. Adopting Harper’s emission reduction targets is a betrayal of that commitment.\n* Fully fund Indigenous-owned and controlled renewable energy projects. \nWe ask First Nations and allies on both sides of the medicine line\, on the land or in cities\, to respond to this call by undertaking action\, in accordance with their own capacities\, responsibilities\, and their protocols. This Thanksgiving\, Indigenous communities and supporters will be conducting actions\, holding ceremonies\, and gatherings across Canada to protect land and water and to demand the Trudeau government stop pretending\, and start acting like it respects our rights. SUMMARY:Deeds\, Not Words - Indigenous Day Of Action\, Oct. 10
DESCRIPTION:Indigenous Day of Action October 10\nJustin Trudeau\, it is time for DEEDS\, NOT WORDS\, that respect Indigenous rights \n#DeedsNotWords \nFirst Nations in Canada are waking up to the reality that the Trudeau government has a big smiley face for a front man\, but when it comes to business\, nothing has changed. This government approved the Site C mega-Dam in Treaty 8 (BC Peace River region)\, against the objection of First Nations whose lands will be devastated by flooding\, destroying access to their food\, medicines\, and sacred sites. Just this week\, they approved the dangerous and climate-destroying Lelu Island Liquid Natural Gas plant against the wishes of local First Nations. Now under review in Alberta by a system that has never denied a tar sands mine is the Teck Frontier tar sands mine\, which would be the largest ever. The federal government\, which campaigned on implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples\, has since informed chiefs from across Canada that adopting UNDRIP is unworkable. Now they have backtracked on their obligations under the Paris climate accords\, too. \nIt is already clear what needs to be done. Canada needs a leader with political integrity and courage to do it. We demand that the Trudeau government to take credible action to: \n● Implement UNDRIP in Canadian law.\n● Clearly indicate it respects Indigenous Peoples’ right to say no to development on their land. (This means Free\, Prior\, and Informed Consent\, not manipulated sham consultations).\n● Stop the Site C dam.\n● Close the funding deficit for First Nations now.\n● Stop pipeline\, gas\, and oil megaprojects: build green energy\, transit\, and houses.\n● Introduce a climate plan that respects the 1.5-2 degree temperature target that Canada helped negotiate in Paris. Adopting Harper’s emission reduction targets is a betrayal of that commitment.\n● Fully fund Indigenous-owned and controlled renewable energy projects. \nAccordingly\, this Thanksgiving\, Indigenous communities and supporters will be conducting actions\, holding ceremonies\, and gatherings across Canada to protect land and water and to demand the Trudeau government stop pretending\, and start acting like it respects our rights. It is high time for deeds\, not words. We ask First Nations and allies on both sides of the medicine line\, on the land or in cities\, to respond to this call by undertaking action\, in accordance with their own capacities\, responsibilities\, and their protocols. \nTo join us please email indigenousdayofaction@gmail.com. \nBackground\nOn matters of substance\, this government is pursuing the same assimilation agenda as previous governments. There has been no change to the disastrous comprehensive claims policy. 150 years of Canada trying to terminate and extinguish Indians has not worked. We are still here and we will still be here hundreds of years from now. Until Canada reckons with\, recognizes\, and respects Indigenous Peoples’ rights and title\, and make legitimate redress for past wrongs\, there will be no lasting peace. \nThis government has still not committed to a plan to undo the deliberate cultural genocide that targeted Indigenous languages and traditions. No serious commitment to Indigenous language revitalization has been put forth. The important recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples have been ignored. \nOptimists believed this government would deliver more money for programs and services. Yet the much vaunted spending announcements of this government will not kick in for years\, and will still leave First Nations gasping\, at poverty-level funding below funding for the average Canadian\, after decades of an arbitrary 2% funding cap that has scrimped First Nations into a $60 billion funding gap. The lack of clean water\, safe housing\, and adequate education\, coupled with abusive government and failure to redress the legacy of cultural genocide\, have produced a profound mental health and suicide epidemic in many communities. \nIn the face of government indifference or hostility\, Indigenous Peoples across Canada and the United States have had to protect their waters and lands from abusive development that violates their duties to protect the land: from hydro dams at Site C in British Columbia\, Keeyask in Manitoba\, and Muskrat Dam in Labrador\, Newfoundland\, to Mi’kmaq people and their allies in Stop Alton Gas protecting the waters of the Sipekne’katik district of the Mi’kmaq Nation; the Algonquins of Barriere Lake in their decades long struggle for their rights against government abuse\, now fighting a Copper One mine being developed on their territory without consent; Neskantaga First Nation\, trying to stop Noront’s Ring of Fire drilling on its land; and Indigenous peoples and allies fighting toxic\, reckless pipeline and oil development in places like Aamjiwnaang\, Kanehsatake\, Unist’ot’en\, Tsleil-Waututh\, Secwepemc territory\, and Standing Rock\, North Dakota. For legitimate defense of their rights\, many Indigenous land and water protectors are criminalized or targeted with legal harassment and intimidation by big corporations\, like Vanessa Gray of Aamjiwnaang\, currently facing expensive court proceedings. \nAs part of this day of action\, we call on Canada to take seriously its obligations under international law\, the Canadian constitution\, and the principles of justice\, and once and for all reconcile itself to our continued existence on this land as Indigenous Peoples. The government has ignored the excellent recommendations of Commission after Commission. Will it ignore the recommendations of the Murdered and Missing Women and Girl’s Inquiry too? Now is the time for Deeds\, not Words. \nWe will be adding local events on our website. There’s no doubt” \nLAL\, the Toronto Electronic duo comprised of Rosina Kazi and Nicolas Murray\, will release its hotly anticipated new full-length album\, Find Safety\, on April 29 through Calgary-based Coax Records. Following that\, LAL will head out for dates across Canada in May and June (see full schedule below). \nThe result of three years of studio work\, Find Safety combines a myriad of influences\, from Fela Kuti and Massive Attack\, to Pete Rock and Detroit Techno. Lyrically\, the album is informed by LAL’s community shows at its west end Toronto performance space\, Unit 2\, as well as Kazi and Murray’s passionate ongoing support of social justice causes and art projects\, with an emphasis on Queer and/or BIPOC issues. The album overall addresses a need to create safer spaces for themselves and their friends\, and musically is a masterful blend of synth and sample-based minimalism. Her latest acting accomplishment was playing the lead in the one-woman play “Sister Mary’s A Dyke” written by Flerida Peña and directed by Jan Derbyshire which ran during Vancouver’s Queer Arts Festival in 2015. Kim was awarded the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award in Community-Engaged arts in 2013\, and is also the founder of “SHE”\, an annual East-Vancouver event celebrating indigenous\, black\, and women of colour in WORD and MUSIC (shefestvan.com). Her recent self-directed music video\, “Brushing by heaven’s shoulder”\, was animated\, rapped and filmed by Kimmortal and was selected to be screened at San Francisco’s Queer Women of Colour Film festival 2016. \nLEE REED is a respected veteran of the Canadian Indie HipHop scene. For over 20 years he’s been stomping stages and studios\, spewing his unique brand of fiery\, anti-capitalist rant-hop. From mouthpiece for the legendary punk-hop greats Warsawpack\, and throughout his solo work that followed\, Reed’s musical legacy remains committed to the fight for a better world; voicing intersectional anti-oppressive politics through HipHop; and soundtracking and signal-boosting the efforts of communities and organizers struggling on the frontline for social and environmental justice. SUMMARY:The Anatomy of the Downtown Metrotown Plan
DESCRIPTION:Earlier this year\, in response to the demovictions crisis that is displacing more than 600 households\, Burnaby City Council announced a new plan for the Metrotown neighbourhood: The “Downtown” Metrotown Plan. \nWhat promises does this plan hold for the existing majority renter community in Metrotown? Come to a public forum about Mayor Corrigan’s plan to turn Metrotown into a “downtown” for Burnaby. \nWe will focus on defining the potential social impact of the plan for more than 3000 apartment units within its scope\, and for the region as a whole\, which is in the midst of a widely acknowledged rental crunch. After discussing the effects of this plan\, we will focus on what we can do to stop it. \nOrganized by Stop Demovictions Burnaby Campaign\nhttp://stopdisplacement.ca/burnaby\ninfo@stopdisplacement.ca\n@stopdisplacemnt
