Decolonize, Decarbonize! No consent, No pipelines!

December 31, 2016- 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

As the Canadian capitalist State enters its national celebration of 150 years of resource exploitation, expansion and colonization of indigenous lands and peoples, we will gather on Lekwungen territory during the Spirit of 150 Victoria- First Night festivities to bear witness, form circle and raise our voices and banners to the systemic injustices and tragedies colonization continues to unload on First Nations communities and individuals, native ecosystems– and the planet as a whole and to honour the long history of indigenous resistance to colonialism and the current indigenous resurgence as a critical current in the shift toward environmental, social and economic justice.

Recent approvals of fracked gas development and tar sands expansion across indigenous lands in so-called British Columbia, without consent of frontline communities and threatening the Salish Sea coast , indigenous sovereignty and economies; and global climate are further evidence that Canada is not listening to indigenous peoples and concerned citizens and will meet direct and growing resistance to the Kinder Morgan TMX and other fossil fuel expansion and energy developments in the new year.

Please join us at the New Year’s First Night celebrations of 150 years of Canadian colonialism, to mark a new year in the long fight to decolonize and decarbonize the indigenous territories we all inhabit!

Bring signs, drums and banners!
