Marxist Reading Group: Session 2-3 (State and Revolution by V.I Lenin)

This is for the 2nd and 3rd session of the Marxist Reading Group. We will be reading State and Revolution by V.I Lenin. It describes the role of the State in society, the necessity of proletarian revolution, and the theoretic inadequacies of social democracy in achieving revolutionary change in society that gives power to the working class/proletariat.

This bi-weekly Marxist Reading Group is put on by The Young Communist League-Vancouver at the Centre for Socialist Education. For the first session, we read Marx. Other sessions include Lenin’s book on Imperialism, and Michael Parenti’s book, “Blackshirts and Reds.”

We encourage people of all levels of learning to join the group and attend our sessions, from beginners who have never read a word of Marx to those who can recite him verbatim. We are by no means the authority on these matters and we hope that together through conversation we can gain a better understanding on these ideas and their application to the world today.
