Routes to Roots: Refugee Pride Edition

July 6, 2016- 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Welcome to the Refugee Pride Edition of Routes to Roots! Let’s celebrate Pride Month with our siblings from the LGBTQ refugee and newcomers community.

QMUNITY is proud to give you the first pride event specific for LGBTQ refugees and newcomers in Vancouver, BC. We will gather at Heartwood Cafe for a night of social circles, get to know one another, carry our flags, and enjoy each other’s company.

The event is part of Routes to Roots, a social drop-in for LGBTQ Newcomers and Refugees, held monthly, and providing a safe space for LGBTQ refugees to hang out, do some social activities together, and feel the sense of community we’re building together.

Learn more about our monthly drop-in group Routes to Roots http://qmunity.ca/social-groups/routes-to-roots/

QMUNITY is also proud to partner with Heartwood cafe, a progressive, LGBTQ-friendly space in East Vancouver, offering its facilities to our community to celebrate Pride in style. The location is perfect for folks who are coming from across Metro Vancouver, as refugees, newcomers and immigrants are scattered across the Metro Vancouver area.

We will be offering some appetizers, social games, board games, and a space to share your thoughts with others around your sense of pride and your sense of belonging.

This event is held on the ancestral, traditional and unceded Aboriginal territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, and in particular, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations in Metro Vancouver on whose territory we work, live and play.

Heartwood Cafe is an accessible space, and the washrooms are gender-neutral.
