We Don’t Want Your Pipeline, Kinder Morgan!

December 10, 2016- 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

A rally of grassroots Sto:lo and our non-native neighbours to voice our opposition to the federal government’s recent approval of Kinder Morgan’s expanded pipeline!

Speakers include Grand Chief Stewart Phillip and Joan Phillip; Carrielynn Victor, Sto:lo artist and activist; Peter McCartney, climate campaigner for the Wilderness Committee, and Michael Hale, local activist with the PIPE UP network.

Sto:lo elder Eddie Gardner will give the traditional welcoming and opening remarks.

The venue: Five Corners is a public area between the Provincial courthouse and the Clock Tower in downtown Chilliwack, off Yale Road East. Parking is at the courthouse parking lot and, kitty corner to the courthouse, still on Yale Rd. E., is the Safeway Parking lot.

More details to come!

After the rally, the plan is to have a talking circle gathering. One of our Sto:lo communities has allowed us the use of its’ hall.

The talking circle will give the opportunity to canvass grassroots opinion about the core issue of the rally; how to stop Kinder Morgan’s pipeline expansion.

This is not going to be an easy fight! We are up against the federal government, the provincial government and Big Oil!

And at the end of the day, it’s not just about stopping a pipeline; it’s about transforming society! It’s about creating an ecologically sane and sustainable society! A society that also honours its obligations for fair and just relations with indigenous peoples!

As a grassroots movement, then, we have to talk about how we are going to get to where we want to go!

More details to come!
