News Conference: Stop the Chinatown Econ Revitalization Plan

Chinatown Concern Group is holding a news conference on Monday morning to address the lack of transparency and respect that the City and its policy reviews have shown towards the working class Chinese community in Chinatown. Last month’s open house regarding the Chinatown Economic Revitalization Update and Development Policies Review was poorly planned and organized; notices with vague and exclusive language were not received by many buildings in the neighborhood and no revisions were made to the controversial Historic Area Heights Review that attracted so many condo developers to the neighborhood.

Come and hear members speak about their fears and frustrations with the rate of development and exclusionary public consultation processes.

The press conference will be taking place on Main (near E Georgia), where a gentrifying Italian grocer will be opening in a couple weeks on December 3rd. This is in light of the recent trend of Chinese grocers serving the low income community closing down, as well as local favorite, 110 year old Italian grocer Tosi and Company.
