A Talk by Jane Bouey: “The Queering of Historical Materialism: A Marxist analysis of Patriarchy”

The Queering of Historical Materialism – a brief accessible exploration of the origins of heteronormativity and patriarchy. A discussion of the root causes of homophobia, transphobia, and sexism, and the struggle for liberation.

Jane has been active in the LGBTQ movement in Vancouver. During Jane’s first term as an elected Vancouver School Trustee, she played a key role in the development and implementation of the Vancouver School Board’s policy on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. As a member of Egale Canada’s Education Committee, she contributes to developing safer school policy across Canada. In 2014, as a member of the BC Safer School Coalition she supported the updating and strengthening of the VSB SOGI policy. Jane has also been active in feminist, anti-racist, and anti-poverty organizing.
