Come Together: For Rainbow Refugee!

July 20, 2016- 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Come Together: A Queer & Trans Open Mic Night is a monthly inclusive and family-friendly event to showcase the talents of queer and trans* musicians, poets, spoken word artists and performers of all things wonderful. Got a talent that’s looking for a stage? We got you!

This month, we’ll be coming together to fundraiser for Rainbow Refugee Committee, a grassroots organization advocating for the rights and providing services for LGBTQAI2+ refugees.

For more information about Rainbow Refugee, visit their website atwww.rainbowrefugee.ca.

‘Come Together’ is held monthly at Heartwood in East Vancouver. Heartwood serves delicious food, tea/coffee, alcohol… come have dinner and join us! Space is limited to about 70 people so get there early for food and a seat.

Due to Heartwood’s closure on August 15th, this will unfortunately be our last Come Together: A Queer & Trans Open Mic Night at Heartwood! If you’re interested in continuing Come Together, please do! Contact Melanie at melanie@heartwoodcc.ca if you have any questions or ideas.

We acknowledge that this event is happening on the occupied, traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples – specifically the sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations.

Trans is an umbrella term to encompass all people who cross socially constructed gender and sex boundaries with a gender identity or expression not typically associated with their assigned sex (ex. trans man, trans woman, transgender, genderqueer, non-binary, etc.).

Accessibility information for Heartwood:

There are two gender neutral bathrooms that are not accessible for wheelchairs and scooters. The Starbucks next door has kindly agreed to provide wheelchair and scooter accessible bathrooms without the need to purchase anything.

For further information on Heartwood’s physical space, please check out the following accessibility audits done by the Radical Access Mapping Project.

We are aiming to have this event scent reduced.

If there are any other accessibility needs/questions, please message Melanie at melanie@heartwoodcc.ca.
