Discussion: Burnaby Mountain 2.0?

December 17, 2016- 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

What roles do collective action, mutual aid, and attacking the colonial-capitalistic state have in the fight against the Trans Mountain Expansion project, while being in solidarity with Indigenous Sovereignty?

First Hour: 75 mins documentary
Second + Third Hour: Discussion

We’ve seen thousands of people come up to Burnaby Mountain during the supreme court of british columbia injunction in November 2014, but Kinder Morgan’s survey and sub-surface geological drilling crews recieved enough data for the company to be capable of putting pipe into the ground (HDD).

In what way do we move forward, collectively and individually, in stopping this pipeline from being built without replicating the ‘pat-on-the-back’ attitude, the photo ops, the co-optation, the ‘peace police’, the symbolic-non-arrests, and colonial-capitalist mindset that was heavily seen during the autumn of 2014?

Accessibility Info: The venue is situated on the south side of Blood Alley Square. There are several cobblestones, but there is ramp access and it’s an open space once inside. There are fewer cobblestones to navigate coming from Abbott vs Carrall. The washroom is not fully WC accessible, the doorway is about 27 inches wide.

this event is hosted on occupied, unceded coast salish territories.
